The Wohl Gallery: A Light-Filled Space for Receptions and Networking

April 2026

Attendee expectations at reception and networking events have shifted considerably. The days of standing in a crowded, overstimulating room with free-flowing alcohol but few appealing NOLO drinks and scarce snacks to be seen, are thankfully behind us. Today's planners are seeking spaces that feel considered on multiple practical, purposeful and ambient levels, aligned with their experience-led event briefs. They’re prioritising environments that naturally provoke meaningful conversation among guests, an atmosphere designed to bolster productivity and a location worthy of people’s time and energy when showing up.

In Westminster, the right combination of accessibility, versatility and prestige is hard to match. For organisations wanting to find a reception space Westminster they can be proud of, the Wohl Gallery at {10-11} Carlton House Terrace is a compelling proposition. This lower-ground space is contemporary in design and infrastructure, purposefully configured and adaptable and has the added appeal of our landmark address.

What Makes a Great Reception and Networking Space?

Creating the right environment for conversation to spark and flow naturally requires more than square footage. This calls for a layout that ensures guests can circulate freely without bottlenecks, as well as proportions that feel welcoming rather than cavernous or cramped.

Acoustics are critical too. A room where voices carry without distortion and background noise stays manageable, makes for far more comfortable networking. Clear sightlines across the space help guests locate one another easily. Enhanced lighting that flatters without being harsh achieves the right tone for hosting and photographing professional gatherings and private celebrations alike.

A neutral backdrop gives event organisers total flexibility. Whether you're incorporating brand elements, floristry or AV production, a space that doesn't compete visually allows your identity to lead.

Introducing the Wohl Gallery at {10-11} Carlton House Terrace

Part of the £9.6 million transformation of our lower ground floor, the Wohl Gallery is one of three recently created event spaces. Designed by leading heritage architects Wright & Wright, this project marked the most significant change we’ve seen since {10-11} Carlton House Terrace opened in 1902.

The room is characterised by its double-height ceiling, which lends a sense of openness and volume that few lower-ground spaces can provide. Natural daylight, air conditioning and a pillar-free layout combine to create an environment that feels appropriately spacious and airy. Its neutral palette is clean and unfussy, creating a versatile canvas for branding, artistic styling or a polished, unadorned finish for more formal occasions.

A fixed projector and screen are built in and complimentary Wi-Fi is provided throughout. The space is fully wheelchair accessible, served by two lifts with wide access points. Like all three new lower-ground spaces, the Wohl Gallery forms part of an eco-conscious design. {10-11} Carlton House Terrace is the first Grade I listed building in Westminster to feature double-glazing, and a fully carbon-free heating system is also installed throughout the venue.

Capacities include up to 70 standing guests for receptions, 66 seated theatre-style, 50 for banqueting, 35 in cabaret configuration and 30 boardroom or hollow square set-up. The space adapts readily across a wide range of corporate and private event formats and group sizes.

How Space Enhances the Guest Experience

There's a particular quality to a well-designed lower-ground space that's worth highlighting. Removed from street-level movement and ambient city noise, the Wohl Gallery offers a degree of privacy and calm rarely found on ground or upper-floor reception rooms.

That separation from external distractions constitutes a more effectively focused environment, where guests are less likely to become mentally sidetracked and more likely to be present. The acoustics benefit from this enclosure too, with less ambient interference and a more controlled sound environment that makes conversation easier to sustain across a room.

The design intent of the space features high ceilings, natural light and generous proportions, ensuring none of this detracts from the atmosphere. The Wohl Gallery feels open, considered and well-lit. It's an inviting room that encourages guests to make themselves comfortable and settle in.

Ideal Events for the Wohl Gallery

Drinks Receptions and Networking Events

As a drinks reception venue in London and central networking hub, the Wohl Gallery is well suited to professional gatherings of all kinds. Association events, brand receptions, end-of-day drinks and sector roundtables all benefit from its capacity for up to 70 standing guests, its ease of movement and its refined, contemporary atmosphere. Catering is arranged through in-house partner Searcys, offering reception menus designed to complement the exact nature of these events.

Board Meetings

In boardroom configuration, the Wohl Gallery accommodates up to 30 and offers a focused, private setting away from the distractions of a busy office environment. The built-in screen, complimentary Wi-Fi and climate control make it a practical choice for leadership meetings, strategy sessions or governance discussions that require both discretion and prestige.

Private and Cultural Events

As a private reception venue in London, the Wohl Gallery works equally well for cultural or charitable events. New product or campaign launches, fundraisers, alumni receptions and intimate celebratory dinners are all perfectly suited. The room’s clean lines and neutral interior give private hosts the flexibility to shape the surroundings to complement their own aesthetic without fighting against a contrasting visual identity.

Press Announcements

The Wohl Gallery's layout, built-in screen and standing capacity make it a natural fit for press briefings and product announcements. It provides a professional backdrop for brand moments that need to look good on camera, while accommodating media guests, presenters and supporting staff without feeling crowded.

Using the Wohl Gallery Within a Multi-Space Event

One of the Wohl Gallery's most practical strengths is how naturally it connects to the spaces around it. Adjoining both the Lecture Room and the SHAPE Room, it serves as an ideal transitional space, where guests can arrive, gather and mix before moving into a more structured programme. Likewise, it can be reset with ease, ready for them to return and decompress or continue conversations once a presentation or session has concluded.

For event organisers building a full-day or evening programme, this proximity is hugely beneficial. A conference in the SHAPE Room flows naturally into a drinks reception in the Wohl Gallery. A talk in the Lecture Room is followed by networking in the space next door. The combination creates an event journey with clear rhythm and purposeful flow, all under one roof, eliminating the complex logistics of moving guests between buildings.

A Reception Space in the Heart of Westminster

Choosing Westminster as the location for a professional reception or networking event carries its own significance. The concentration of leading institutions, government departments, academic bodies, professional associations and major corporations within the SW1 postcode means that, for many delegates, attending an event here requires minimal disruption to their working day.

{10-11} Carlton House Terrace sits at the heart of St James's, overlooking The Mall. Charing Cross, Piccadilly Circus and Embankment stations are all within easy walking distance, making it reliably accessible for guests arriving from across the capital, from other UK cities and from international destinations via the major London airports.

For event organisers, that combination of location and address reinforces the credibility of what's taking place here, well before a single guest has arrived.
