Accessibility Access to the British Academy
The British Academy is committed to actively helping all clients and guests to use and enjoy the facilities at the British Academy’s premises at 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, London. However, due to the Grade I listing of the building, there are currently slight restrictions in place in relation to access for motorised or battery powered wheelchairs and vehicles.
The Academy has two dedicated accessibility lifts to assist all standard wheelchairs and most electric wheelchairs, up to a weight of 300 kgs – this includes the user and wheelchair. These dedicated Lifts are located within the entrance of No 11 at street level and on the Ground floor lobby of No11. Please note these lifts have capacity for one wheelchair at a time.
The Academy also has two small passenger lifts for access to other floors of the building. Due to their space and size, combined with duel floor access points, these lifts cannot accommodate anything larger than a standard wheelchair.
In the light of these restrictions, may we respectfully request that all clients and organisations using the building who have disabled access requirements for their event, provide the Academy with exact specifications and details of access requested from all disabled guests, visitors or attendees, which must be submitted seven (7) days prior to your event, to ensure that access can be provided, wherever possible, to all public areas and meeting rooms.
Our lift sizes are as follows;
Entrance 90 cm wide
130 cm long by 90 cm wide
Inside Wolfson Accessibility lift:
Entrance 100 cm wide
135 cm long by 95 cm wide
